Start with the objective on your screen
Start Story Mode if you want to learn Episode 1’s sequence; choose Chase if you want to search for escape items under pursuit. In either mode, read the current objective before spending a battery or running into another room. Photographing an entity, collecting a maintenance key and finding a password paper are different tasks.
This THRESHOLD beginner guide helps you keep track of the next task when a first run gets hectic. The game is in beta, with Episode 1 and Chase available. Check the Roblox game page and your current menu when returning after an update.
Pick a mode you can learn from
Story alternates exploration, cinematic escape prompts and defensive scenes. Its opening gives you a camera objective involving Mom; later scenes test your reaction to circles, vehicle windows and misleading voices. In Chase, you collect what you need to escape while speech adds another risk.
| Starting choice | What to concentrate on | Common first-run mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Episode 1 Story | Read each objective as the scene changes | Keep doing the previous task after a cutscene |
| Maintenance-key Chase | Find keys and check the exit’s deposit progress | Treat a held key as a completed exit |
| Scrow Chase | Collect password papers and use your own digits | Copy a code from somebody else’s run |
For a fuller comparison, read Story vs Chase. A first clear and a fast clear are different goals. Learn where the objective changes before trying to copy a speedrun’s movement.
Follow the opening Story handoffs
At Blox Street 12, check for a Spare battery rather than rushing straight through the first interaction. When the game asks for a photo of the entity’s face, aim at the face and complete that instruction. Then follow the carry objective for Mom. Wait for the objective to change; hearing the camera effect alone does not confirm that you finished the task.
After the opening encounter, look for the Story’s Fragment of paper items and follow the assembly prompt. Search the rooms methodically so that you can tell a missed room from one already checked. These fragments advance the Story; they are not the Scrow keypad papers.
Once the scene becomes an escape, stop searching rooms. Click the displayed circles and respond to the slide prompt. Later, Danny asks you to watch every vehicle window. Look across the windows and use the direction shown by the current arrow. On PC, click and drag the arrow. One successful input does not finish the whole sequence.
Prepare during the shop break
Use the quieter shop sequence to collect batteries and complete the Energy drink interaction when told to restore sanity. Finish the checkout rather than walking away with an unfinished purchase. Then look at your actual meter and inventory before following the next objective.
| Check before leaving | Why it belongs here |
|---|---|
| Sanity meter | The shop gives you an explicit recovery opportunity |
| Spare batteries | Later darkness makes careless camera use costly |
| Current objective | Restocking and finding the route are separate actions |
| Latest Danny dialogue | The next section includes conflicting directions |
Do not empty the camera while testing every surface. Use it when the scene needs a photograph or flash, and keep an eye on its displayed resource state. The battery guide explains the preparation checks in more detail.
Keep Chase searches organized
In a maintenance-key run, use the displayed interaction prompt, then take the key toward the exit and verify that the deposit changes its progress. When the objective asks for three keys, carrying one key is only part of the job. Check the current requirement in your round.
In Scrow’s mall, begin with a quick look around the stairs, then search the upstairs food court before widening into the market. Treat that as a search priority, not a promise that every paper will spawn there. Collect the remaining papers your current counter requires, then enter the digits for that round.
The official description warns that Chase can hear you. Keep unnecessary microphone chatter down when learning the map, but continue watching the pursuit itself. A muted microphone does not complete the objective or guarantee safety. Read maintenance keys or the Scrow route for the round you actually selected.
FAQ
Which mode should a new player try first?
Story is a useful first choice for learning the camera, objective changes and reaction scenes. Choose Chase first if searching under pursuit is the experience you want.
Are all papers used for the same puzzle?
No. Story paper fragments lead to an assembly step. Scrow password papers supply digits for the mall’s exit keypad.
Should I use a code shown in a video?
Use your current round’s collected digits. A successful code from another run is not a universal solution.
Does taking a key finish a Chase round?
Check the exit’s deposit progress and remaining requirement. Picking up a key and using it at the exit are separate checks.
Can I ignore the sanity meter?
Watch it, especially at the shop recovery opportunity. Episode 1 later includes a low-sanity warning and a hallucination defense sequence.
