Match the input to the current prompt

THRESHOLD controls change with the task. A maintenance key uses a hold interaction, Story’s escape asks you to click circles, and the vehicle scene uses directional arrows. Read what the current prompt asks before pressing the button that worked in the previous scene.

This guide covers scene interactions, rather than a complete keyboard, mobile or controller map. On another device, use the binding displayed by that scene. Do not assume its input matches a PC key.

The interaction table

TaskAction to followWhat to watch afterward
Story face-photo objectiveAim the camera at the entity’s face and take the photoObjective changes to carrying Mom
Maintenance-key pickup on PCHold E when that prompt appearsPickup completes and progress changes
Story escape circlesClick the displayed circlesThe next prompt or action
Slide during the escapeFollow the slide prompt shown on screenThe escape continues
Vehicle window arrow on PCClick and drag as directedResume scanning all windows
Scrow keypad on PCType the current digits and confirm with EnterAccepted input and exit interaction

The prompt gives both the action and its context. A hold is not a tap; an arrow is not a reason to press the same movement key repeatedly; a successful response is not always the end of the sequence.

Complete holds instead of tapping through them

When a maintenance key displays Hold E, stay within the interaction position and complete the hold. If the key has not registered, check whether the prompt is still active. Running away halfway through the interaction makes it harder to tell a missed pickup from an unfinished hold.

Then inspect progress. Taking the key and depositing it at the exit are different tasks, so do not reuse the pickup interaction blindly at the door. Read the exit’s current instruction and verify its progress.

The maintenance-key guide covers the route and deposit checks. This page answers the narrower input problem: which displayed action you need to complete.

Separate circles from vehicle arrows

Story’s escape presents circle inputs followed by other actions, including sliding. Focus on the current target and reset your attention after it. The scene can continue quickly, so waiting for a long pause between prompts is a poor reaction habit.

The vehicle scene is different. Danny asks you to watch every window, and the arrows require a directional response. On PC, click and drag the arrow. Look at its direction and perform that interaction rather than merely clicking the window where you saw the entity.

After responding, resume watching the windows. The window defense guide explains the scan loop; the car chase guide covers the earlier escape inputs.

Confirm keypad entry, then return to movement

At Scrow’s keypad, read the digits gathered in your round before typing. On PC, type with the keyboard and use Enter to confirm. Check the input you actually entered, then confirm it.

Once it is accepted, leave the input view and follow the exit interaction. Continuing to type while trying to move can keep your attention on the wrong task. If the entry fails, inspect the digit display and your paper count before searching again.

Use your own digits. The code-paper guide explains why a copied number from a recording does not solve every round.

Diagnose the prompt you missed

When an action does not work, check three concrete things: the active objective, the visible input instruction and the progress after your attempt. That tells you whether you used the wrong action, stopped before it completed or moved on before the game registered it.

Do not remap your entire setup because one timed scene caught you off guard. First identify whether the scene wanted a click, drag, hold, typed entry or movement. Those distinctions matter more than a guessed universal binding.

FAQ

What button collects a maintenance key?

On PC, the pickup prompt is Hold E. Use the binding displayed in your current game and let the hold complete.

How do I move the car-window arrow on PC?

Click and drag the arrow. Follow its displayed direction, then return to scanning the windows.

Are circle events the same as window defense?

No. Circles are clicked during an escape action; vehicle arrows involve a directional response in a later scene.

What confirms Scrow’s keypad on PC?

On PC, type the gathered digits and use Enter. Follow your current interface if its controls differ.

Can I use this as a complete console or mobile key map?

Use it to identify the action type, then read your device’s prompt. Do not assume every platform shares the PC bindings.
