Find a key, then verify the exit deposit
THRESHOLD maintenance keys belong to the Chase escape objective. Search for the keys, complete the displayed pickup interaction, and take them to the exit. Then check the deposit progress. Holding a key is not the same as having finished the exit requirement.
The maintenance-key objective covered here asks for three keys. Read the requirement in your current round before planning a search, especially after an update. This guide explains how to organize that task without depending on a fixed spawn map or mixing it with Scrow’s password papers.
Check what your round still needs
Before running deeper into the map, identify the key objective and locate the exit when your route allows it. Knowing where you must return makes a found key useful; otherwise, you can spend the next minute wandering while carrying it.
| Current situation | Next action |
|---|---|
| You have not found a key | Search the next unchecked area |
| A pickup prompt is visible | Complete that interaction and check the collected state |
| You are carrying a key | Return toward the exit and use its key interaction |
| A key has been deposited | Check the remaining requirement before leaving |
| The requirement is complete | Follow the exit interaction and finish the escape |
Keep collected and deposited progress separate whenever the interface distinguishes them. In a co-op run, communicate which step has actually happened rather than simply saying that the key is done.
Search an area once, then move on
Use a repeatable sweep rather than running randomly between rooms. Enter the area, scan its accessible corners and surfaces, and look for the current pickup prompt. If you need to retreat from pursuit, remember which part of the sweep was interrupted.
Use the sweep to check each area; no location listed by another player guarantees a spawn. A player’s announcement that a key was right there does not tell you where your round’s key will be. It also does not make a previously checked room permanently irrelevant after an update.
The PC maintenance-key interaction covered here displays Hold E. Use the prompt actually shown on your device and allow the hold to finish. If nothing changes, check your position and whether the interaction remains active instead of rapidly tapping through it.
After collecting, return along a route you can recognize. Use junctions and the exit’s approach as your reference points. Avoid extending the search solely because you are curious about a new branch while you already have a key to deposit.
Use hiding as a pause in the search
Players use barrel hiding during the maintenance-key pursuit. Follow a visible hide interaction where available, then decide where you will go when leaving. Use the hiding pause to reorient your search while keeping track of the enemy.
The official description warns that Chase can hear spoken words. Keep microphone chatter deliberate while hiding or returning with a key. Speaking, silence and hiding do not replace watching the approach or checking the exit.
If the entity forces you away from the key route, preserve a simple next task: return to the exit with the held key, or resume the unfinished sweep. Keep that task in mind so you do not end up following a teammate around the same corridors without an objective.
Confirm progress after trouble
After an encounter, inspect the key and exit counters before deciding that you need to start over. Do not assume that keys always survive death or always disappear. A frightened player’s comment about still holding a key can describe an escape from danger rather than an actual death.
The same rule helps in co-op. If somebody says they have the last key, check whether the exit still needs that key deposited. Check the exit even when your group starts celebrating. Stay with the finish interaction and check the run result before leaving.
For the other collection objective, use the Scrow guide. Its password papers and keypad do not explain maintenance-key deposits. The voice chat guide covers microphone decisions without promising a phrase that stops the pursuit.
FAQ
How many maintenance keys do I need?
The Chase objective covered here requires three. Confirm the requirement shown in your current round and use its progress display.
Is picking up the final key enough?
Check the exit’s deposit progress. Collecting a key and putting it into the exit are separate actions in this Chase objective.
Which button picks up a key?
Use the displayed interaction. The PC interaction covered here shows Hold E; check your own prompt before using it on another device.
Do keys always stay after death?
Check your current inventory and exit progress after the encounter. Do not plan the route around guaranteed death persistence.
Are maintenance keys used for Scrow’s password?
No. Scrow uses password papers and a keypad. Select the guide that matches the objective on your screen.
